As part of Pet Central at Stephens College, students who choose not to bring their own pets may decide to foster animals in partnership with Columbia Second Chance.  Students who are part of this foster program take the pets to adoption events and receive scholarship money in return.  By training and nurturing the foster pets, the Stephens fosters prepare them for their permanent "forever" home.  However, the program benefits the students as well.  They no longer have to miss their furry friends while they are away at college. Stephens freshman, Xandra Prestia-Turner, lived in Prunty Hall with  Don "Don-qui" Quixote, whom she fostered for two months. Prestia-Turner is a part of the Stephens Fosters Scholarship Program, in which she gets free room and board and a scholarship for fostering a pet. Since Don-qui was neglected from an early age and has medical problems, Xandra has described caring for him as a quite a handful. However, she loved Don-qui and was sad to see him go. Don-qui was adopted the night the pictures were taken by a couple  based in Missouri. (1:37)
